Berlin - Schönefeld (SXF):  Location: 16 km/10 miles SSE of the City Centre.  By Taxi: €28-35/30-40 mins to the city centre.  By Train: AirportExpress RE4 & RE5: This train stops at a station close to the airport, which is connected by a shuttle bus. It runs into the city every 30 mins 0500-2300. ~€2.25/30 mins. Timetable: Click here!  Traveller Feedback: Outside there is a BUS shuttle which takes you to the railway station. However it is probably less than a half mile away, just the other side of the airport car park in fact. FIne if you have a lot of luggage etc. If you want to stretch your legs, when you get outside, turn left and use a pavement to the station (U-Bahn - underground), It is well signed and takes only 5 mins to walk - (I did it on the way back!). Once there, there are markings on the floor pointing to the Airport Express in the pedestrian subway. Actually it is a silhouette of a train (in cross-section). Looks like an old 'space invader'! It is on the far side of the station, about 5 mins walk. The correct platform is indicated in the pedestrian subway. (On the way back - in the station - the same route is marked in reverse with the silhouette of a plane.) The Airport Express is NOT dedicated to the airport, the station airport just happens to be on a service route that passes through, so final destinations can be a bit confusing. A good link is www.berlin-airport.de. In the airport (and many other places) - you can buy a city rover card in bookshops for either 48 (€14.50) or 72 hrs (€21). This gives complete access to all trains, trams, buses etc in Berlin. Berlin is 'zoned' and you can buy cards (called Berlin Welcome cards) for either 'A' (inner) or A & B (inner & outer). There is a 'C' zone but that is 'way out' of town' and not likely to be required by tourists. The airport is just in zone B, so it saves money getting from the airport to central Berlin alone. The card is activated initially by 'validating' it at one of the many machines in the city, so you can buy in advance. Once validated you needn't do it again. Also with the cards come discount vouchers to museums etc. Example: Zones A, B & C for 72 hrs cost €21. On the retun trip at Berlin-Zoologischer Garten Station, the Airport train leaves from Platform 1. Again, not all trains are marked 'Airport Express' so be wary. The Journey takes 30-40 mins. (Not far distance wise - but slow going through the suburbs).  Rental Cars: AVIS Budget EUROPCAR Hertz & eSixT.   Affordable, Car Hire Berlin Schonefeld Airport & argus Car RentalsNOTES: ◊EasyJet have their own check-in hall, which can be a bit confusing, because there is no reference to their flights in the main one! The airport is on 2 floors. The meeting point is on the ground floor near the front entrance. There is also an Information point there and a bookshop/newstand etc which sells maps, guides and the BVG Welcome Cards. They cover all travel on the S-bahn, U-bahn, Trams, and all Buses. There are trolleys to use to get to the nearby railway station.  Airport Website: www.berlin-airport.de.  Airport Tel No: +49(0)1805 000 186.  Updated Apr05 ADV.  [back].[top]

Berlin - Tegel (TXL):  Location: 9 km/6 Miles WNW of the City Centre.  By Taxi: ~€15/20-30 mins to the centre.   By Bus: The JetExpressBus TXL, operated by BVG, runs from the Airport to the city & back every 10 mins from early in the morning until late in the evening connecting the airport with the government district, Unter den Linden/Glinkastr. & U Französische Str. It stops at only a few main stations, where you can transfer easily to Berlin's extensive underground, S-Bahn train and bus network. Following a stop at Turmstrasse underground station (connection to Line U9 underground and 7 other bus lines), JetExpress TXL runs to the underground station Französische Strasse, in the middle of Friedrichstrasse. Also, JetExpressBus serves Unter den Linden and ends at the Alexanderplatz. Bus Timetable: Departing daily from Tegel Airport between 0600-1900 every 15 mins, from 1900-2300 every 20 mins. Saturdays 0600-2300 every 20 mins, Sundays 0600-1400 every 20 mins. On Sundays 1400-1800 the bus operates every 15 mins, after that till 2300 every 20 mins again. Departing daily from Berlin city centre from the undergraund station U Alexanderplatz at 0523 (Sat and Sun at 0527). The last bus departs from the airport at 2305. €2.20/28-40 mins from the airport to the Alexanderplatz (depending on the time of day).
